“The Food Allergy Epidemic” by Hugh A. Sampson, M.D., the Kurt Hirschhorn Professor of Pediatrics, Dean for Translational Biomedical Sciences, Director, Jaffe Food Allergy Institute, Department of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. First of a three-part series. Free. Reservations strongly recommended; call the Museum at 203-869-0376 or email details to info@brucemuseum.org.

”We want to focus on the science and history of childhood health issues that have reached epidemic proportions,” explains Bruce Museum Curator of Science Gina Gould. “This is a brand new series that will speak to parents, grandparents and any interested adults who want to become informed about the well being of our youth.”

The public is welcome to attend and bring brown bag lunches, if desired.

Dr. Sampson is the Kurt Hirschhorn Professor of Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and the Director of the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. He became a leader in the field of food allergy research through his work at Johns Hopkins. His research interests and publications have focused on food allergic disorders including characterization of food allergens and strategies for treating food allergies. He has published over 350 articles and 60 book chapters on food allergic disorders and co-edited four books, and was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies in 2003 for his research on food allergies.

This three-part series on childhood epidemics continues on April 3, when Dr. Eric Hollander presents “New Developments in Autism Spectrum Disorders.” On May 8, Dr. Diane Mickley will discuss eating disorders.
