A Lifetime of Looking
"A Lifetime of Looking" is a senior outreach program designed for people with early to mid-level Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The program is structured around the premise that people with dementia often have the abilities and desire to participate in, enjoy, and benefit from mentally and visually stimulating activities.
Trained staff bring reproductions of objects and images from the Bruce Museum's collection directly to adult day care centers, assisted living facilities, and adult residences. During the one-hour program, Museum staff and participating seniors look together at one or two objects or images, "reading" the clues to tell stories based on the pictures. Hands-on supporting materials relating to the images and objects are also used to enhance the experience.
The goals of the program are to engage and stimulate people mentally, emotionally, and physically in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
