Avant-Garde Persuasion: The Photographs of Harold Haliday Costain Exhibition Programs

The Bruce Museum presents a four-part series of films exploring the contexts that informed Harold Haliday Costain’s body of work.  The series will trace the history of photography in the early twentieth century and profile important American artists who worked in the commercial field and influenced the use of photography as art and advertisement. All films are followed by coffee and discussion, and are free with Museum admission.


April 24:  American Photography: A Century of Images (120 min.)

May 1: Alfred Stieglitz: The Eloquent Eye (90 min.)

May 8: Manhatta – from Avant-Garde: Experimental Cinema of the 1920s and 1930s (10 min.), America & Lewis Hine (60 min.), and Edward Steichen: Masters of Photography (30 min.)

May 15: Norman Rockwell: Painting America (86 min.)
