Bruce Museum Educator Gets Grant for Wild Bees
Corinne Flax, Manager of School and Community Partnerships at the Bruce Museum, has been awarded a $1,000 stipend by Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives. Ms. Flax participated in the first Regional Sustainability in Science Museums Workshop in July 2017 in Portland, Maine, and, with the guidance of the staff there and the support of the Bruce Museum, has developed an ambitious outreach program for the upcoming Wild Bees exhibit. The stipend will provide free admission to the Bruce Museum to schools touring the Wild Bees exhibition, on view April 14 - November 4, 2018, provided they commit to working with Bruce Museum educators to create habitats for native wild bees at their school sites. Wild bees are a diverse group of frequently overlooked native pollinators that lack the showy honey and hive of the European honeybee, but have the variety and tenacity of true native species. Ms. Flax looks forward to working with schools that are interested in supporting these threatened populations.
