Bruce Museum Executive Director Peter C. Sutton to Retire

GREENWICH, CT, September 5, 2018 – Peter C. Sutton, after an illustrious 17-year career as Executive Director of the Bruce Museum, is moving toward his retirement. During his tenure, he dramatically advanced the Bruce’s mission, improved its operations, and vastly expanded its audience.

The Board of Trustees has formed a Transition Committee to steer the Museum through its leadership succession and to conduct a national search for a new Executive Director. The Museum has engaged Koya Leadership Partners to assist with identifying qualified candidates.

As the Executive Director and CEO, Peter led the Museum’s transformation from an institution of local interest to one of the most dynamic museums in the region. Today it offers exhibitions of international quality and plays an integral role in the cultural life of both area residents and visitors from afar, attracting over 85,000 visitors a year and reaching families, students, seniors, and community organizations with world-class art exhibitions, compelling science exhibitions, and educational programs for both adults and 28,000 schoolchildren annually.

The Board greatly appreciates Peter Sutton’s vision, leadership, and all his accomplishments as Executive Director. “Peter has increased the Museum’s base of support through highly effective national and international partnerships and fostered a community of committed and enthusiastic patrons,” says Jan Rogers Kniffen, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Notably, he has helped set the Museum on a path toward an exciting future, with the recent public announcement of a transformative, $60 million capital expansion and renovation project.”

“It has been an honor to serve the Museum and the community as The Susan E. Lynch Executive Director,” says Sutton. “This period of transition offers great opportunities for the Bruce Museum and, for me, personally.”
