The C * A * S * E for the New Bruce—Join Us!

A special message from James B. Lockhart III, Chair, Board of Trustees, and Robert Wolterstorff, The Susan E. Lynch Executive Director & CEO:

We are thrilled with the progress of the Campaign for the New Bruce! Thanks to many generous donors, we are 80% of the way to our $45 million construction goal. The momentum and excitement are building, and we need just $8 million more in gifts and pledges before we can put a shovel in the ground.

The CꞏAꞏSꞏE for the New Bruce is strong. It’s compelling. It’s this:

Community    +    Art    +    Science    +    Education

Museums are more and more about creating Community, by bringing people together for cultural conversations in a shared public space. The entire ground floor of the New Bruce will be devoted to community spaces, including the lobby, beautiful restaurant, and large, modern auditorium.

The New Bruce will be an even greater destination to experience fine Art. The William L. Richter Art Wing will provide gallery space to exhibit the Museum’s permanent collection for the first time ever, and inspire future gifts of great art from the community. Expanded special exhibition galleries will enhance our capability to bring world-class exhibitions to our members and visitors.

In the New Bruce, Science will encompass all of our current galleries, quadrupling the space for changing science exhibitions. Our Permanent Science Galleries will be reimagined and enlarged, adding more exceptional fossils, minerals, and unique specimens of the natural world, with the emphasis on providing interactive, hands-on experiences for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Education is central to our mission. The new Education Wing, renovated and expanded with the generous support of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, will allow us to double the number of students we host from diverse communities across the region each year – from 25,000 to 50,000. Astonishing numbers. Astonishing impact.

We’re excited about the future of the Bruce Museum! This place we love is getting bigger and even better.
