Bruce After Hours and Experiences at the Bruce: Gisela Colon & Dr. Danielle O’Steen

Experience the Bruce after hours while enjoying unique programming that brings the exhibitions to life. Galleries will be open from 5–6:45pm, with Curatorial Associate, Emma Zavodny, available to answer visitor questions about the vibrant monoliths and pods in Gisela Colón: Radiant Earth. There will also be food and drink in the lobby accompanied by the classical piano styles of Clint Edwards.

At 7pm, following Bruce After Hours, we are delighted to host a discussion between Gisela Colón and Dr. Danielle O’Steen, guest curator of Radiant Earth. A Q&A will follow this engaging conversation.

Tickets are $16 for members and $20 for non-members.  Each ticket will include two drink tickets to be used at the bar. Registration is required. 

Gisela Colon Portait

Gisela Colón (b. 1966) is a Puerto Rican-American artist whose ecofeminist work addresses ecological and universal concerns. Drawing from her formative years in Puerto Rico, Colón has pioneered a language of “organic minimalism,” creating abstract, luminescent sculptures sourced from the energy of the earth, ancestral biological memories, and concepts of time, gravity, and the forces of nature. Colón’s polymathic practice engages the fields of Minimalism, Light and Space, Environmental Art, and Land Art.

Notable Land Art installations and public exhibitions include The Future is Now for the Land Art

Biennial, Desert X AlUla in Saudi Arabia (2020); Forever is Now (2021) presenting a site-specific monument at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt; Godheads - Idols in Times of Crisis in the Oude Warande Forest in the Netherlands (2022); One Thousand Galaxies of Light (Starfield) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2022); Máteria Prima, a survey exhibition at the Museu Nacional da República, in Brasília, Brazil (2024), and Horizontes Compartidos at the Havana Biennial, La Habana, Cuba (2024).

Colón’s work resides in collections such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, El Museo Del Barrio, Instituto de Cultura Puertorriquena, SCAD Museum of Art, Norton Museum of Art, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Mint Museum, and the Palm Springs Art Museum, amongst others.

Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, the artist lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

After Hours March 26 Clint Edwards

Clint Edwards is a composer, arranger, and pianist. His compositions and arrangements have been performed around the world, including NYC’s Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, WQXR, Joe’s Pub, The Green Room 42, and The Eugene O’Neill Theater Conference, as well as in concert venues throughout England, Holland, Australia, Germany, South Korea, and Poland. He is the winner of the 2019 Broadway World Award for Best Independent Album Release. As a pianist, he regularly gives more than 350 performances a year in the NYC metropolitan area.

After Hours March 26 Danielle O'Steen

Danielle O’Steen is an art historian and curator based in Philadelphia, with interests in American sculpture, plastics, and the history of materials and studio practice. She is currently an adjunct professor in art history at Arcadia University, and was previously curator at The Kreeger Museum in Washington, DC. O'Steen has held fellowship positions at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and received a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Maryland.
