Bruce Experiences: Performance by Miho Hatori - “Autonomous”

Sunday, November 9, 2025, 1:30–3:30pm

Inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s: Metal the Mirror galvanized steel sculptures, Miho Hatori will perform a sound piece in honor of his work.

Sound is introduced into the interior of the sculpture without physical contact, where it reflects and resonates—forming a non-contact feedback loop. These reflections are captured and shaped into a base track, which serves as the foundation for live improvisation. Rather than a controlled system, the work explores feedback as resonance—a poetic, autonomous exchange between sculpture, space, and sound.

1:30–3:30pm: Join us for a light bites reception at 1:30pm; the performance will begin at 2pm.

Miho Hatori Head shot

Miho Hatori is a boundary-pushing artist, music producer, vocalist, improviser, sound designer, and DJ, recognized for her innovative approach to sound and performance. She first gained international recognition as a member of the legendary NYC group Cibo Matto.

Her latest album, Between Isekai and Slice of Life, was released under her name. She has also released projects under New Optimism, Miss Information, Salon Mondialité (a conceptual performance piece inspired by Édouard Glissant), Smokey, and Miho (a project inspired by Candomblé music). In addition, she contributed to the first Gorillaz album and has collaborated with artists such as the Beastie Boys, John Zorn, and many more.

Miho’s creative style is fluid and borderless, blending music, sound, and visual art. Her work challenges boundaries, exploring new perspectives and vision in today’s archipelagic world, while addressing themes of storytelling, human consciousness, marine environmental concerns, and the resilience arising from the historical impacts of colonialism.

Originally from Tokyo, Miho has been living and working in NYC for too many years, since 1994.
