Organized around the themes of Identity, Belonging, Belief, and Making, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how American art both reflects and redefines our shared history. This exhibition extends beyond the gallery by inviting members of the community to contribute their own perspectives, reinforcing that the American story is not only one we inherit, but one we continue to create together.

Rohini Devasher: Solar Poetics brings together immersive video, drawing, and installation inspired by the sun and the cosmos, creating a space to consider how we observe and record phenomena beyond human perception. Blending art, astronomy, and scientific observation, the exhibition centers on One Hundred Thousand Suns (2023), a four-channel video installation that weaves together more than a century of solar observation with Devasher’s own astronomical research. The exhibition connects artistic practice with scientific inquiry, inviting visitors to reflect on the ways we seek to understand the universe and our place within its vast expanse today.

The exhibition examines how marine materials such as pearls, coral, and shells have carried meaning across cultures. Featuring exceptional works by renowned jewelers and houses including Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Verdura, and David Webb alongside rare natural history specimens, Adorned by the Sea: Jewelry from the Deep reveals the connections between art, science, and the beauty and history of our oceans.

Working at the intersection of painting and sculpture, Kathy Butterly has redefined the tradition of studio ceramics, creating whimsical, small-scale vessels characterized by exuberant color and unorthodox forms. For this exhibition, Butterly will create more than twenty new works in response to the minerals on view in the Robert R. Weiner Mineral Gallery. Kathy Butterly: Mineral Messenger will also highlight the scientific nature of the artist’s practice, including her sustained experimentation with the physics and chemical processes of firing and glazing.
