Adélie Penguin, Pygoscelis adelie

Bruce Museum Collection TBD Gift of SeaWorld

Adélie penguins nest in icy environments where there is no vegetation. Rather than using sticks or leaves, Adélie penguins build nests out of pebbles. Pebble nests help keep the eggs from becoming waterlogged during the spring snow melt. This taxidermy specimen was created to illustrate Adélie penguin nesting behavior for the Penguins! Past and Present exhibition.
