Barred Owl Strix varia

Bruce Museum Collection 2015.08

Barred owls are nocturnal birds that prey largely on rodents. This individual owl was included in a small diorama in the Terrestrial Ecosystems Gallery of the Bruce Museum’s permanent exhibition Natural Cycles Shape Our Land. It is featured in a work of art that is also part of the Bruce collections, a scratchboard drawing by Francesca Anderson.
