Four Trapezoids as Two Rectangles II, 1985
Stainless steel, edition 2
Bruce Museum, Gift of Alan and Deborah Simon, 2024.04.03
The natural laws of motion and principles of physics fascinated George Rickey throughout his career, driving him to engineer kinetic sculptures that rely on gravity and momentum. Here, two stainless steel rectangles at rest are transformed into four trapezoids when animated by the wind. As they spin and move, their reflective surfaces catch the sunlight, engaging natural forces to create a sense of dynamism.
