Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990)
Untitled (Three Dancing Figures), Version A, 1989
Baked enamel, edition 1/3
Promised bequest
This monumental sculpture depicts a group of three faceless figures, each rendered in a primary color and engaged in an energetic circular dance. Through his immersion in the Pop art scene, graffiti subculture, and gay community of 1980s New York, Keith Haring developed an easily accessible and discernable visual language—akin to a cartoon sketch or stick figures—to express the vivacity of modern life. Here, he harnessed the figures’ dynamic yet carefully coordinated movements to pay tribute to the joy and interconnectedness felt within these communities.
