Fred Elser First Sunday Science: Edible/Medicinal Plants and Mushrooms with "Wildman" Steve Brill

Sunday, August 4, 2024, 2:00 pm-3:00 pm, Floren Family Environmental Center at Innis Arden Cottage, Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich, CT

"Wildman" Steve Brill, America's go-to guy for foraging, will bring some of the best wild foods of late summer to the Bruce Museum Seaside Center, for the public to learn about and try, with Q & A for the last 15 minutes of a free presentation. Here are a few possible species you'll be able to see and try:

Participants get to see, touch, smell, and taste representative species of the wild edible and medicinal herbs, greens, fruits, berries, seeds, and roots that constitute the backbone of our local ecosystems. This is a great time for berries. We could get to taste wineberries, blackberries, and cornelian cherries, all different and all delicious. The blackberries are so good, they'll give your iPhone a run for its money!

The free 60-minute foraging presentation at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center begins at 2 PM, Sunday, August 4, at 11 Tods Driftway, Old Greenwich, CT.

Steve Brill has been leading foraging tours throughout Greater NY for the public, plus private events for schools, museums, nature centers, schools, etc. since 1982. He's written 5 books and an app, but he's best-known for having been arrested and handcuffed by undercover park rangers in 1986 for eating a dandelion in Central Park!

This program is free of charge. No beach pass is required if you are attending the Fred Elser First Sunday Science. Please let them know at the gate you are attending the Bruce museum seaside center lecture. First Sunday Science programs take place at the Floren Family Environmental Center at Innis Arden Cottage, Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich, CT.
