Meet for Coffee at the Bruce: Garden Design with Richard Sneesby
Saturday, October 4, 2025, 9–10:30 am, , Aux Délices at the Bruce Café
Join us for an inspiring morning of culture and conversation with renowned garden historian and designer Richard Sneesby as he explores the evolution of garden design in the UK and beyond. In this engaging talk, Richard will discuss the role of garden and horticultural shows in celebrating contemporary trends while shaping the future of both British and international gardens.
Through rich storytelling and historical insights, Richard will illustrate the lasting significance of the iconic ‘English’ garden, which continues to influence garden design today. He will highlight some of the visionary garden designers and plantspeople who helped define horticultural fashion and taste, particularly in the 20th century, when gardening became more accessible to the public rather than an exclusive privilege of grand estates and stately homes.
While the quintessential ‘English’ garden is celebrated worldwide, what is its place in the 21st century? As science, technology, and environmental awareness reshape our perspectives, Richard will examine how modern cultural shifts, globalization, and sustainability are influencing the future of garden design both in the UK and internationally.
This event is part of our Meet for Coffee at the Bruce series, where culture and conversation percolate. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a thought-provoking discussion over coffee while gaining insights into the past, present, and future of garden design.
