Textile

The Bruce Museum holds an outstanding collection of women’s fashion and accessories dating from the 1830s to the 1960s, with an emphasis on late nineteenth-century American and French garments. Kashmir shawls in the collection date from the early to mid-nineteenth century and several were given to the Bruce Museum by Greenwich families who passed them down through the generations. The textile collection also includes court robes from the Qing Dynasty and Japanese kimonos, Central Asian rugs and equestrian gear, eighteenth-century European tapestries, and hand-hooked American rugs.
